Automatic Drawing and Cartooning

This studio art workshop will focus on basic techniques of cartooning and drawing from the imagination by drawing freely and without pre-conception to see where it goes. Attendees will also work on some watercolor and ink painting techniques to bring these drawings to life.

This hands-on workshop will expose educators to a variety of water media painting techniques using watercolor and acrylic paint, for use in Enrichment, Art, STEAM, STEM and classes that use paint as a vehicle for student expression. The techniques are suitable for all grade levels, from simple to advanced, including Gelli Arts printing plates. Participants should bring a painting project sample/lesson or a lesson that could be modified for paint for sharing and planning. 

Visual Arts and Cognitive Development: A Collaboration with The Art School at Old Church

Educators who participate in this full-day workshop at The Art School at Old Church will learn how hands-on experiences of painting, printmaking, ceramics, and jewelry-making develop advanced levels of thinking, described in Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK) framework. Participants will make art in a variety of media, reflect on processes and outcomes, and be able to devise art experiences for their students that emphasize strategic and extended thinking.
