The agenda for this learning experience will be created by participants’ interests and curiosities collected prior to the session. This workshop offers child study team members an opportunity to collaborate in a roundtable discussion. The day will focus on sharing best practices among participants.

Creating Orton Gillingham (Multi-Sensory Reading) Assessment Protocol

The workshop will allow teachers to share assessment resources, create a school-based curriculum of concepts, and create protocols for receiving services.

Sexuality Education: Considerations for Students with Special Needs

This workshop looks at how adolescent development for children with autism and other special needs shares features with and also diverges from that of their non-disabled peers. Discussions will include how to help prepare students for body changes, understanding concepts relating to consent and body autonomy, and how to modify lessons for non-verbal students. Working with families and handling sensitive topics such as privacy, nudity, and masturbation will also be addressed.

Special Education Roundtable

This workshop will provide special education teachers the opportunity to collaborate with other special educators in order to create/edit lessons, assessments, IEPs, and, ultimately, work together to better their teaching. The session will consist of strategies that can be used in the classroom. It is recommended that participants come as a team or from the same district.

Understanding Special Education Code NJ6A:14

This workshop will review components of New Jersey Special Education code NJ6A:14. Participants will have the opportunity to review case scenarios involving components of special education code so as to increase understanding and interpretation of the code. In addition, participants will have a more comprehensive understanding of how to interpret special education code.
